So it means that SSRs have a very low power consumption (low input current), even when switching high load currents (Little input power is needed to switch large loads). This represents a huge advantage of Solid State switching against other technologies available on the market :
Usually, for standard zero-cross single phase SSRs, control current is <13mA for all the voltage range at any operating temperature. But for some application, especially resistive load switching, our customers are sometimes requiring lower total energy control input. Therefore we have developped a new 50A Solid State Relay with very low input current control (<2mA) : SO965030-HE.
Thanks to this low-power control input, it is possible to control more solid state relays from a single control source.
Lower control current means less power losses in the control circuits, which can be important in a system with many solid state relays.
Its first important feature is its low energy current regulation with Jfet technology. This feature allows precise current regulation and very low energy losses in the control circuit.
Thanks to this efficient regulation, the control current is only 2mA, and remains stable over a wide voltage range.
Input current (mA) vs. Input voltage (VDC)
(Input current is the current that flows through the SSR when the rated voltage is applied).
As the graph shows, you can see the stability of the control current with an input voltage from 3.5 to 32 VDC.
This new input circuit integrates a temperature compensation system to ensure proper operation of the SSR regardless of ambient temperature variation.
As you can see on the graph, the input circuit current remains stable from -40 to +85°C.
On the output circuit side, this new relay is equipped with a back-to-back thyristor with long lifespan.
Its operating voltage range is 24-600 VAC. Finally, this power element supports a nominal current of 50 Amps if the SSR is mounted on the suitable heatsink.
A transil diode is integrated into the output circuit to protect it against overvoltage and fast transients bursts.
